December 2023 - Mohamed Oudainia's thesis defence

Mohamed Oudainia is one of two doctoral students funded by the ANR as part of the CoCoVéIA project. He defended his thesis on 21 December before the following jury: Reine Talj and Olivier Sename (rapporteurs), Naïma Ait Oufroukh-Mammar, Philippe Chevrel and Jimmy Lauber (examiners), Jean-Christophe Popieul, Chouki Sentouh and Anh-Tu Nguyen (thesis supervisor and co-supervisors). Title of thesis: "Adaptive shared control and development of personalised driving strategies for automated vehicles: a progressive learning approach". Mohamed is currently continuing his work on the project as an ATER (Attaché Temporaire d'Enseignement et de Recherche) at INSA Hauts-de-France. As a reminder, a second thesis is being prepared as part of the project, that of Yikai Wang.

September 2023 - The SHERPA simulator is back in operation

After a year's work, the SHERPA driving simulator is once again operational. This is the second major upgrade of the equipment since it was first commissioned in September 1997. It is therefore a completely renovated simulator that will be used for the validation experiments of the developments carried out as part of the CoCoVeIA project.

January 2023 - Work on the SHERPA driving simulator

The SHERPA simulator is operational at the University of Valenciennes since September 1997. In 2006, a major evolution consisted in installing a 6 axes motion system associated with a Peugeot 206 cabin. This "version 2" was used for the last time at the end of 2022 to carry out the preliminary experiments of the CoCoVeIA project. Important work has been in progress since then: replacement of the motion system by a more efficient one, commissioning of a new Peugeot 208 cabin with a "cockpit" similar to that of the DS7 vehicle also used for the project, replacement of the graphics PC cluster, updating of the SCANeR simulation software... Very soon, a completely renovated SHERPA simulator ("Version 3") will be available to the CoCoVeIA project for developments and tests.

October 2022 - Closing seminar of the ELSAT 2020 project

The ELSAT2020 project (Eco-mobility, Logistics, Safety & Adaptability of Transport by 2020) brought together most of the scientific institutions and organizations located in the Hauts-de-France Region and working on the issue of sustainable transport and mobility. The closing seminar of the project took place on October 21, 2022 in the facilities of the Institute of Sustainable Mobility (IMTD - Institut des mobilités et des transports durables - Accueil) located in Valenciennes on the university campus of Mont Houy. This was the opportunity for LAMIH to present the work done in the framework of the CoCoVeIA project through the DS7 demonstrator vehicle.

November 2021 - Commissioning of the new LAMIH test vehicle
"Human-machine cooperation" is a research field that requires hardware and software prototyping works as well as numerous tests and experiments. For this purpose, LAMIH uses its dynamic simulator called SHERPA. However, the transition to a real vehicle remains an essential step in validating the work. This is why a test vehicle has been developed, with a hardware and software architecture as close as possible to that of SHERPA in order to facilitate the porting of developments "from virtual to real life". It will allow tests to be carried out in complete safety, mainly on a test track. The vehicle (DS7 from the Stellantis group) was adapted by the FH Electronics company, a long-standing partner of LAMIH, on the basis of the specifications of the CoCoVéIA project. It was founded within the framework of the CPER ELSAT 2020 project.

July 2021 - Inauguration of the Gyrovia test track in Valenciennes
The Gyrovia track at the Transalley technology park was inaugurated on 2nd of July 2021. It is an experimental and demonstration track, fully instrumented and equipped, which will allow the safe implementation of urban and peri-urban driving scenarios.

December 2020 - Recruitment of the two PhD students
The two PhD students of the project have been recruited:
- Mohamed Radjeb OUDAINIA will work on the "Control" aspects. Mohamed holds a state diploma in Automatic Engineering obtained at ESSAT in Algeria and also a Master 2 in Automatic, Human and Mobility Engineering obtained at UPHF. His thesis is co-supervised by Jean-Christophe POPIEUL and Chouki SENTOUH, both research professors at the UPHF / INSA Hauts-de-France.
- Yikai WANG was recruited for the subject combining HMI and Learning aspects. Yikai completed his engineering course at ENSMM in Besançon, specialising in Mechatronics and Robotics. He also holds a Master's degree in Complex Systems Engineering from the same school. His thesis is co-supervised by Serge DEBERNARD and Damien DAVENNE, both research professors at UPHF / INSA Hauts-de-France and the University of Caen respectively.


November 2019 – Project kick-off
The kick-off meeting took place on Tuesday 5 November 2019, in a somewhat unusual format as it brought together all the coordinators of the projects selected in the programme (EC22 - Urban Societies, Territories, Construction and Mobility). The first plenary meeting of the project took place on 23 January 2020 in Paris.
