The Nord Pas-de-Calais Region: Europe’s crossroads
Nord Pas-de-Calais is an attractive region, both for its population and its economy. For more than a decade, the region has been home to some 15% of foreign investment in France. Today the region is characterised by a developed services industry with major companies, as well as a significant network of SMEs. The construction of the Channel Tunnel has cemented the region’s opening to Europe. London is now no more than 2 hours from Lille. An industrial and agricultural region, Nord Pas-de-Calais is also important academically, home to 7 universities and 21 grandes Ecoles (prestigious Universities). These grandes Ecoles produce more than 10% of French Grandes Ecoles graduates annually.
