Translating the Migratory Experience - Literary Perspectives

New book by Stephanie Schwerter published by Peter Lang

.

Translating migration literature represents a particular challenge for translators, as they must play the role of true cultural mediators. They face not only the idiosyncrasies of the language used by the authors, but also a way of thinking and a perception of values specific to their culture of origin. The book is structured in three parts corresponding to the geographical and cultural areas covered by the different works analyzed. While the first part is devoted to European perspectives, the contributions in the second part focus on African and American contexts. The analyses gathered in the third part focus on translations situated between the East and the West.
