Dynamic thermoregulatory photonic crystal fabric for personal thermal management

Mohamed Boutghatin, Yan Pennec, Salim Assaf, Michèle Carette, V. Thomy, Abdellatif Akjouj, Bahram Djafari-Rouhani

Personal thermal management represents a new paradigm to reduce the energy consumption, which consists in controlling the temperature around the human body rather than regulating the temperature of the entire residential space. Recent progress in smart textile showed promising radiative heating and...

Signals to Spikes for Neuromorphic Regulated Reservoir Computing and EMG Hand Gesture Recognition

N. Garg, I. Balafrej, Y. Beilliard, Dominique Drouin, F. Alibart, J. Rouat

Surface electromyogram (sEMG) signals result from muscle movement and hence they are an ideal candidate for benchmarking event-driven sensing and computing. We propose a simple yet novel approach for optimizing the spike encoding algorithm's hyper-parameters inspired by the readout layer...

Consequences of antenna effects on s-SNOM imaging of a photonic mode

T Hannotte, Louis Thomas, C Nascimento Santos, M Lavancier, Sophie Eliet, B Walter, Marc Faucher, Jean-Francois Lampin, Romain Peretti

We report on the influence of antenna effects on the imaging by THz s-SNOM of a photonic mode. Unknown radiation pattern from the probe and sample combination makes the interpretation of a s-SNOM image non-trivial.

Human sensing in reverberant environments: RF-based occupancy and fall detection in ships

Marwan Yusuf, Emmeric Tanghe, Brecht de Beelde, Pierre Laly, Matteo Ridolfi, Eli de Poorter, Luc Martens, Davy Gaillot, M. Lienard, Wout Joseph

In this paper, we explore the possibility of estimating the number of people inside a below-deck ship compartment using the theory of room electromagnetics. Most RF-based occupancy detection solutions focus on residential environments. Confined metallic spaces such in industrial environments are...

Securing Deep Spiking Neural Networks against Adversarial Attacks through Inherent Structural Parameters

R. El-Allami, A. Marchisio, M. Shafique, Ihsen Alouani

Deep Learning (DL) algorithms have gained popularity owing to their practical problem-solving capacity. However, they suffer from a serious integrity threat, i.e., their vulnerability to adversarial attacks. In the quest for DL trustworthiness, recent works claimed the inherent robustness of...
