Culture

The cultural service offers students various activities throughout the year. They can take advantage of opening modules (theater, music, visual arts, writing, performances...), numerous cultural outings and exhibitions at the Ronzier Art Center on the Tertiales-Ronzier campus.

The missions

Service Culturel de l'Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France

The Cultural Service is a general service of the university.

The department's cultural policy is directly driven by the university's Vice-President Culture. This cultural policy of the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France is oriented towards its university community and the local area.

The department's cultural policy is directly driven by the university's Vice-President of Culture.

The aim of this policy is to promote access to culture and artistic practice for UPHF students and staff, in particular through the development of partnerships with local cultural players.

The aim of the cultural department is to democratize culture in all its forms, to enable students to open up and discover the many artistic possibilities on offer in our region, which are all too often unknown or inaccessible for geographical, sociological or financial reasons.

The cultural department organizes the production and dissemination of cultural and artistic events on campus. It fosters the development of supervised cultural and artistic practices by students and supports autonomous practices by the university community.

The Art Center

Managed by the cultural service, the Art Center is located on the first floor of the Ronzier building's EAST wing. The UPHF Art Center hosts between 4 and 6 exhibitions per academic year. These exhibitions are also punctuated by highlights: artistic performances, live art (dance, theater, music, readings), lectures, workshops and round tables.

The Art Center is open to all from Wednesday to Saturday, 11am to 5pm during exhibition periods. Closed when the university is closed.

The Art Center is open to all.

Cultural workshops and modules

The cultural service offers two cultural workshops: the Big Band Universitaire and the Atelier Théâtre. It is possible for all members of the university community (students, teachers and staff) to take part in these workshops.
It is possible to register for these workshops at the start of each semester. Registration is valid for a full semester.

The cultural department also participates in UPHF's Modules d'Ouverture offering. Administered by IT2S (Institut Transversal des Sports et de la Santé) the cultural service offers between 20 and 35 modules each semester. These modules, combining practice and theory, cover a wide range of fields: visual arts, performing arts, philosophy, photography, digital technology, cinema, writing techniques and play culture... all these modules contribute to the development of our students' knowledge and skills.
The modules are organized into three skill blocks: Mobilizing resources in a cultural or artistic context, interacting with one's environment and preparing for the professional world.

Cultivating the UPHF experience

The cultural department works closely with players in the cultural and artistic life of the Valenciennes region. The UPHF welcomes professional speakers and/or artists from the world of the visual arts, music, contemporary dance, the world of publishing and illustration, and live performance.

Collaboration extends beyond the confines of the university, with regular "hors les murs" events offered to the entire university community at our local partners: le Phénix, l'Espace Pasolini, le Centre d'Art Contemporain l'H du siège, le musée des Beaux-Arts de Valenciennes, les Nymphéas, le Boulon (CNAREP), Le Printemps Culturel, la FLAC (Fédération Locale d'Alternative Culturelle), le CRP (Centre Régional de la Photographie), l'Imaginaire, Harmonia Sacra, le Manège Maubeuge, Le Grand Hornu, L'Opéra de Lille and the Atmosphère association.

New partnerships are being created: such as with the Maison des Jeunes et de la Culture (MJC) de Saint-Saulve and the Les envolées association.

Student artist status

Our team is actively working to enable students to apply for and obtain UPHF student artist status for the start of the 2026 academic year.

Research at the service of society

The cultural department organizes tours, conferences, seminars, symposia and round tables on themes linked to the current social and artistic issues of our time.

Les Presses Universitaires de Valenciennes (PUV)

Founded in 1985 by Jean-Pierre Giusto, Presses Universitaires de Valenciennes' initial vocation was the publication of symposium proceedings and works written by several hands.

Since 2011, the PUVs have been restructured, with the creation of three collections: "Europe(s)", "Textes en Contexte", "Pratiques et représentations". All PUV books are now edited under the authority of internationally renowned experts.

Since then, the PUVs have continued to expand their collections to cover other, more diverse subjects such as: animals, art and its various representations (photography, comics, etc.) or biodiversity.

The PUV's ambition remains unchanged, namely the publication of conference proceedings and collaborations by Valenciennes-based authors and members of the UPHF's four research laboratories: the LAMIH, the LARSH, the CERAMATH and the IEMN.
