Mathématiques et langage(s)

History of mathematics symposium at Ceramaths

The CERAMATHS will host the 26th colloquium of the Inter-IREM Commission Epistemology and History of Mathematics, on the theme "Mathematics and language(s)"

from May 22 to 24.

The IREMs (Instituts de Recherche sur l'Enseignement des Mathématiques) bring together, in each academy, academics and teachers (college and lycée especially); and the Commission Inter-IREM (CII) Épistémologie et Histoire des Mathématiques federates IREM members interested in its subject.

This CII organizes a colloquium every two years. The only one held in Hauts-de-France so far was in Douai in... 1998.
The 2025 event will be held at UPHF, from May 22 to 24. Its theme will be "Mathematics and language(s)"

.

The symposium will open with a "general public" lecture by Karine Chemla, director of research at the CNRS: "How mathematical activity shapes its language and languages". The conference will take place at the St-Nicolas auditorium in Valenciennes, on Thursday May 22 from 5:30pm to 7pm, with free admission.

The rest of the symposium will take place on May 23 and 24 on the Mont-Houy campus and will be reserved for registered participants.

This 26th symposium will also mark the fiftieth anniversary of the CII. Two conferences will be devoted to this, and the 56 works collectively written by the CII during these 50 years will be on display, for the duration of the colloquium.

The CII's fiftieth anniversary will also be celebrated.

See the colloquium website for program details, paper abstracts and registration (until April 10)
