Electromechanical properties of sodium bismuth titanate thin films

Stephania Kossman, Arthur Hamieh, Freddy Ponchel, Denis Remiens, Maxence Bigerelle

Lead-free piezoelectric sodium bismuth titanate (BNT) films are promising candidates for actuators applications as an alternative to lead zirconate titanate films. We focused in this work on the growth and characteristics of BNT films deposited by sputtering on silicon substrates with LaNiO3…

Structure of deposits formed by drying of droplets contaminated with Bacillus spores determines their resistance to rinsing and cleaning

Maureen Deleplace, Heni Dallagi, Thomas Dubois, Elodie Richard, Anna Ipatova, Thierry Bénézech, Christine Faille

The formation of deposits by evaporation of droplets contaminated by Bacillus spores was investigated, focusing on the role of spore and material properties. Droplets containing hydrophilic to hydrophobic spores were deposited on materials (stainless steels, polypropylene, glass). The presence of…

Unidirectional Coherent Phonon Emission in an Optomechanic Nanobeam Containing Coupled Cavities

Alexander Korovin, Yan Pennec, Bahram Djafari-Rouhani

Nonreciprocal phonon emission is predicted theoretically from the coherent excitation of two coupled optomechanical cavities arranged along a phoxonic crystal nanobeam. The latter consists of a periodic array of holes and stubs and exhibits simultaneous photonic and phononic bandgaps. It is shown…

CNTFET-Based Ternary Multiply-and-Accumulate Unit

Amr Mohammaden, Mohammed Fouda, Ihsen Alouani, Lobna Said, Ahmed Radwan

Multiply-Accumulate (MAC) is one of the most commonly used operations in modern computing systems due to its use in matrix multiplication, signal processing, and in new applications such as machine learning and deep neural networks. Ternary number system offers higher information processing within…

Electrocatalytic hydrogen generation using tripod containing pyrazolylborate-based copper(II), nickel(II), and iron(III) complexes loaded on a glassy carbon electrode

Mohamed Ibrahim, G. Mersal, Ahmed Fallatah, Khaled Althubeiti, Hamdy El-Sheshtawy, Manal Abou Taleb, Manash Das, Rabah Boukherroub, Mohamed Attia, Mohammed Amin

Three transition metal complexes (MC) namely, [Tp(MeMe)CuCl(H2O)] (CuC), [Tp(MeMe)NiCl] (NiC), and [Tp(MeMe)FeCl(2)(H2O)] (FeC) {Tp(MeMe) = tris(3,5-dimethylpyrazolypborate) were synthesized and structurally characterized. The three complexes CuC, NiC, and FeC-modified glassy carbon (GC) were…

Physical layer enhancement for next-generation railway communication systems

Qianrui Li, Jean-Christophe Sibel, Marion Berbineau, Iyad Dayoub, François Gallée, Herve Bonneville

This paper presents an overview of the challenges and state-of-the-art physical layer enhancement designs for next-generation railway communication, also known as high-speed train (HST) communication. The physical layer design for the HST should adapt from its counterpart in the general-purpose…

Comparison of Brillouin Light Scattering and Density of States in a Supported Layer: Analytical and Experimental Study

Ossama El Abouti, John Cuffe, El Houssaine El Boudouti, Clivia Sotomayor Torres, Emigdio Chavez-Angel, Bahram Djafari-Rouhani, Francesc Alzina

We provide a detailed analytical calculation of the Brillouin light scattering (BLS) intensity of a layer on a substrate, taking into account both photoelastic and moving boundary (ripple effect) mechanisms, and give a comparison between BLS intensity and density of states (DOS) to determine the…

Plasmonic Approaches for the Detection of SARS-CoV-2 Viral Particles

Sabine Szunerits, Hiba Saada, Quentin Pagneux, Rabah Boukherroub

The ongoing highly contagious Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), underlines the fundamental position of diagnostic testing in outbreak control by allowing a distinction of the infected from the non-infected people.…
