We have fabricated and characterized with electroabsorption sampling uni-travelling-carrier photodiodes. This 7.5 mum-diameter photodiode generates electrical pulses with full width at half maximum of 3.1 ps.

Irradiation of a patterned benzophenone-terminated boron-doped diamond (BDD) surface with UV light (<i>λ</i> = 350 nm) in the presence of a 15^mer oligonucleotide resulted in the covalent linking of the DNA strand to the BDD interface.
