Description
This is a painting depicting the custom of treating bodies after death in Tibet.
In a country that consists mostly of mountains and has few forests, burials as well as bonfires are not common.
Moreover, since the majority religion is Buddhism, the soulless body is merely an empty shell with no more use and feeding the raptors constituting a return to the earth.
This is a highly codified custom that has varying degrees of performance, the body of the poor is simply laid out on the mountain heights while the rich are cut up and blessed before being eaten by the raptors.
