WORKSHOP by Master 2 Curatorial Studies students at L'H du Siège Art Center - Day 1

On Thursday, January 25, 2024, students in the Master 2 Curatorial Studies program visited the contemporary art center L'H du Siège in Valenciennes (hdusiege.org) for the first day of a workshop on exhibition technical management and mediation issues. As part of the workshop, they met part of the art center's team: Bernard Draux (technical manager) and Adeline Delobel (cultural mediator), accompanied by Cléa Delaire (Civic Service).

After a presentation of each person, and the roles and missions specific to each profession, the students followed several times of experience sharing and practical application both in the exhibition spaces, in the documentation center and in the art center's technical workshop. In the control room, they were introduced to various techniques for hanging works of art, learned how to use a laser level, and how to apply self-adhesive lettering. On the mediation side, they were able to discover the current exhibitions of L'H du Siège (Yoo Hye Sook and Clément Fourment) with specific mediation approaches (sound, blind...).

Currently preparing their triple exhibition Reviviscence (taking place next March in the Phénix hall, the UPHF Art Center and the B.U. des Tertiales) as part of the cabaret de curiosités, the students worked on mediation avenues, aided by Adeline Delobel, asking themselves in particular how to adapt to different types of audience.

They presented Bernard Draux with their plans for the plinths they had planned for their exhibition and will return to L'H du Siège in February to build their structures, advised and accompanied by the stage manager.

This project is part of the professionalizing dynamic of their Curatorial Studies Master's course, within which students apprehend from A to Z the elaboration and realization of an ambitious exhibition project for which they are collectively in charge of curating, scenography, mediation, budget, artist relations and communication.
