Aiming for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games for Romain Boittiaux, STAPS student and resilient athlete
Romain Boittiaux, a student in the STAPS Activité Physique Adaptée et Santé (APAS) degree program, was awarded a Bourse Handicap Inclusion on December 16, 2024 by the Fondation Partenariale Polytechnique Hauts-de-France for his project in the presence of University President Abdelhakim Artiba and his tutor Guillaume RICHARD, STAPS Sports Director at IT2S.
See you at the Los Angeles Paralympic Games in 2028!
Romain Boittiaux is a student at the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France, but above all a Wheelchair Tennis player who plays on the national and international circuit. Indeed, he is currently ranked 8th in France and 84th in the world in the ITF Wheelchair Tennis rankings.
Among his many sporting goals, he plans to break into the world's top 50 in 2025 and thus be able to take part in the Los Angeles Paralympic Games in 2028!
Following a serious accident in December 2022, Romain, a former 2/6 ranked tennis player, had to show resilience. He didn't give up his favorite sport, tennis. On the contrary, it's through the discipline of paratennis, more commonly known as Armchair Tennis, that he thrives today, "More than a sport, a real obsession" according to him!
Sponsors and patrons welcome
To make his dream come true, Romain needs a professional chair, a truly custom-made one that he can only get from a specialist. Problem:acquiring such a chair is very expensive, and taking part in international tournaments represents a high cost (around 45,000€ for a season), so Romain set about finding sponsors and patronage.
In this search, it seemed natural for him to apply for the Excellence Grant offered by the Fondation Partenariale Polytechnique Hauts-de-France. Both to finance part of his ambitions but also to publicize his approach as a resilient sportsman , an example for young people with disabilities to follow.
