The Café Mathématique of the CERAMATHS Mathematics Department takes place onthe third Thursday of each month (usually), at 2pm.
The Café Mathématique sessions are informal rentains over a cup of coffee or tea and cookies.
Presentations are scheduled to last 30 minutes. Pre- and post-lecture discussions are welcome, and the total duration is planned for 45 minutes maximum.
Presentations are given face-to-face and are transmitted by videoconference (ask one of the moderators for the address).
In exceptional cases, the speaker may be remote.
There are no thematic restrictions. There are no thematic restrictions. The idea is to present a small, attractive (intuitive, visual, amazing) idea to any audience (mathematicians): a kind of mathematical miniature. For example, a special case of a research theme, an interesting idea for a TD exercise, a surprising application of a theorem, an astonishing simplification of a calculation...
The lecturer can give a presentation on the subject of mathematics. The speaker can show his or her way of thinking, of reasoning, of "feeling" mathematics in a framework elementary enough to be easily accessible to all members of the department.
