My work focuses on the construction of shapes, which I approach through two complementary methods: geometric modeling, which seeks the best representation of a given object, and topology optimization, which seeks the best shape for a given function. In both cases, the result must be faithful to what it represents and suited to what it must accomplish, while remaining regular enough to be used afterwards, whether for computation or for manufacturing.
The first line of work concerns the approximation of curves and surfaces. The goal is to build, from measurement data, mathematical representations that are both faithful to the data and regular. I am particularly interested in adaptive methods, which adjust the complexity of the model to that of the object being represented, and in representations subject to geometric constraints, which are essential when the resulting representation is to be used downstream.
The second line of work concerns topology optimization, a design method that lets computation determine the shape of a structure rather than choosing it beforehand. One starts from an available volume and an allowed amount of material, specifies what the structure must do and what loads it must withstand, and the optimization indicates where to place the material. I develop this method and apply it to energy harvesting with piezoelectric materials, that is, the conversion into electricity of part of the mechanical energy dissipated under our footsteps and under vehicle wheels.

Current teaching
I teach in the Computer Science Department of IUT de Maubeuge (Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France), across all three years of the Bachelor of Technology (BUT) in Computer Science. I cover the whole of the programme's mathematical curriculum — discrete mathematics, graph theory, probability and statistics, numerical methods, optimisation and automata theory — as well as, in the final year, multimedia programming and 3D and virtual reality engines.
I supervise a number of project-based learning units (SAÉ) from the first to the sixth semester, together with the third-year mathematical modelling projects. The latter, by way of illustration, are run entirely as projects: each group takes a topic from end to end, from a problem stated in plain language through to the program itself and the interpretation of its results — genetic algorithms, RSA encryption, queueing theory, image processing, energy minimisation, aircraft route planning, and others.
Part of my teaching work concerns assessment itself. I have developed tools for the automated generation of examination papers, as well as question banks for remedial teaching at the start of the first year, where the wide disparity in students' mathematical backgrounds is the main difficulty. The place of generative AI in students' work is the subject of an explicit policy there, which differs according to the type of work submitted.
