Registering for a thesis
PhD presentation
Why embark on a doctoral thesis?
Who can embark on a doctoral thesis?
What do you get out of a doctoral thesis?
Stéphane Lambrecht answers these 3 questions.
Stage 1: Entry requirements for doctorates
Your qualifications
You must hold a Master 2
degree.Article 11 of the decree of May 25, 2016 states that "to be enrolled in a Ph, candidates must hold a national Master's degree or another degree conferring the grade of Master, following a course of training or professional experience establishing their aptitude for research".
In the case of a foreign diploma from outside the European Union, the doctoral application must go through the doctoral school's Scientific Council, which will rule on the equivalence of the foreign diploma presented to request admission to the doctoral program. This equivalence will be requested automatically when the application is processed.
Although it is not a legal requirement, it is desirable to have done a research dissertation in Master 2 to apply for the PhD.
Step 2: Examination of your application by a potential thesis supervisor
You must have a thesis supervisor
After defining your research topic, you need to get in touch with a thesis director specializing in your field of research
To find a thesis director, you need:
- to consult the supervisor specialties of the laboratory's researchers to help you make your choice.
- contact, via their professional e-mail address, the professor(s) and lecturer(s) authorized to direct research who could supervise you by sending them a research project accompanied by the following documents:
- a curriculum vitae,
- a letter of motivation,
- a copy of Master 1, Master 2 and dissertation transcripts,
- a copy of the diploma if issued at the date of application.
- a research project including a state of the art in the specialty (literature review), a proposed problem and positioning in relation to the literature, a proposed methodology and the most important bibliographical references,
- your Master's thesis .
You can also consult the topics proposed by the laboratory's teaching staff on the ADUM website. If you are interested in one of them, you must contact the teacher-researcher who proposed the subject before initiating the registration procedure.
Do not apply directly on Adum before the subject has been validated by the doctoral commission or departmental authorities.
Step 3: Examination of your file and application to the laboratory
- You are applying for financing
The doctoral commission, which meets in June, will evaluate your application. Funding will be awarded after applicants have been auditioned. - You are not applying for funding
Your application will be evaluated by departmental authorities.
Step 4: Finalize registration
If your application to supervise a thesis is approved, you will need to create an account on the ADUM internet portal for information, services and communications for doctoral students and PhDs (Aaccess Doctorate Unique and Mutualized) in order to complete your official application.
