Cross-border debt recovery

First conference in the ‘Les Transfrontalières’ series, organised in collaboration with UMONS

The first conference in the series ‘ Les Transfrontalières ’, organised by the Faculty of Law and Public Administration at the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF) and the School of Law at the University of Mons (UMons) as part of the European university alliance EUNICE, is devoted to cross-border debt recovery.

In an economic area such as the Franco-Belgian region, cross-border debt recovery is a daily challenge for businesses, financial institutions and legal practitioners. Whilst European Union law has gradually established instruments to facilitate the circulation of judgments and the securing and recovery of debts, their practical implementation continues to be hampered by persistent obstacles arising from the delicate interplay between European instruments and national laws, as well as the diversity of national practices, which complicate enforcement. Against this backdrop, the conference proposes a comparative analysis between France and Belgium, bringing together academics and practitioners with the dual aim of identifying specific points of friction and devising practical solutions and avenues for improvement.
