The Little Kingdom of Julos Beaucarne

Interview with Stéphane Hirschi, professor of French literature and musicologist, following the publication of his article on Julos Beaucarne in the literary journal Nord' of the Hauts-de-France region.
He was born 90 years ago, on June 27, 1936. Julos Beaucarne, the magical locksmith of Walloon song—at once a poet, musician, wordsmith, and lover of flying bicycles; president of the fruit tree liberation movement; the man with the famous rainbow sweaters— Julos, then, spent half a century crisscrossing the roads of the French-speaking world, spreading the beauty of his melodies and the creativity of his inventions. There aren’t two Julos in a century.
To pay tribute to him, the radio station Fréquence Protestante welcomed Stéphane Hirschi, who recently coordinated an issue of the literary journal *Nord’* from the Hauts-de-France region entirely dedicated to Julos Beaucarne: *Julos Beaucarne, A l’heure et aux bonheurs du temps présent*
