Gaétan Henry, research associate at Laboratoire AIAC, INREV team, Université Paris 8
His research-creation work is part of a consideration of ecosophical issues for digital creation: his thesis develops a synthetic Wabi-sabi "aesthetic-ethics", which tends to 1/ disinvisibilize the stages and processes involved in making simulated images and 2/ encourage the creative use of imperfections. This takes the form of adding "physical" constraints, such as the concept of resource finiteness in virtual immersive creation tools.
These early definitions focused on a contemplation of the creator's gesture. The current body of work instead explores the experience of interactivity through the prism of the Japanese concept of MA, focusing on the decrepitude of virtual environments and the impermanence of forms, as a driving force for creativity in these spaces.
Ludovic Bernhardt, artist, writer and lecturer in contemporary arts at LARSH - UPHF, attached to the AIAC/EPHA laboratory, EDESTA, Université Paris 8
He will present his creative (exhibitions, works, books) and academic research processes, based on a hybridization between approaches we're too used to seeing separate, he will show how what we call "research-creation", tends to consider art, exhibition and writing, as research tools in their own right. Having neither a recipe nor a definitive, fixed typology to propose, we can nonetheless clear the way for virtuous processes open to experimentation and discovery: which only enriches the definition of art, but also university and extra-university research methods, situated between theory and practice.
