Thomas Barège (comparative literature): "La chambre du malade : espace social ? représentations littéraires contemporaines"
Line Amselem (Spanish literature): The body in the convent: life and death, desire, suffering and healing in the poetry of Teresa of Avila (1515-1582)
Thomas Barège will examine the motif of the sick room, whether public (as in the hospital) or private as in the home, and will try to understand how the representation of the care space and the patient's relationship to this space is constructed to emphasize that in reality private rooms are rarely completely one's own and that illness often functions as an operator that abolishes the boundary between the private and the public.
Line Amselem will look at the poetry of Teresa of Avila (1515-1582) exalts suffering, illness and death in the desire for divine union. These texts allow us to enter squarely into a resistance to the vicissitudes of convent life, where the body is ceaselessly tested in the rigors of Carmelite reform.
