Multilingualism: issues, speakers' attitudes and media manifestations
In a globalized world, new challenges are constantly emerging in the context of multilingual interaction, which manifests itself in a variety of ways. The attitudes of speakers play an important role in the question of which language is privileged in the context of language learning.
In this interdisciplinary collective work, this multifaceted theme is approached from different angles. The focus is on the different challenges and interactions between plurilingualism and identity construction in different contexts. The contributions gathered here focus on both individual and territorial multilingualism. They examine, for example, how language and identity influence each other, and the hierarchical relationship between different languages in the public sphere.
In addition, specific models of multilingualism have been developed.
In addition, language- and culture-specific patterns in social media communication are examined, and the strategic use of multilingualism in comics is described. A series of studies focuses on multilingualism in the context of music, theater and literature. In addition, a study of language choice in the education sector in Ireland highlights various language policy issues. The multiple dimensions of plurilingualism addressed give rise to new processes of reflection and discourse.
