Sustainable and Transparent Battery Lifecycle Management Through Enhanced Data Tracking and Respect for User Privacy in Electric Vehicles
Battl-EU optimizes the battery life of electric vehicles (EVs) through behavioral analysis, federated learning, and an edge-cloud architecture. It also ensures traceability and recycling via blockchain, while guaranteeing GDPR compliance.
The Battl-EU project addresses the rapid growth of the EV market and European requirements for circularity and traceability, given that the average lifespan of batteries (≈ 8–12 years) is significantly reduced by inappropriate driving and charging habits, recycling rates in Europe remain low, and demand for raw materials could increase 20–25-fold by 2030, making reliable traceability essential (Batteries Directive, Green Deal).
To address this, Battl-EU proposes a vehicle–edge–cloud architecture powered by the Dunasys unit: on-board data collection, local analysis, and federated learning to account for heterogeneity and protect privacy, followed by the recording of the battery passport on a permissioned blockchain to ensure integrity, traceability, and interoperability throughout the entire lifecycle.
The objectives are:
- Optimize RUL through behavioral analysis and charging planning
- To improve recycling through secure end-to-end traceability
- To ensure GDPR compliance through decentralized processing
