Thermocapillary instability in an evaporating two-dimensional thin layer film

Andriy A. Avramenko, Igor V. Shevchuk, Souad Harmand, Andrii I. Tyrinov

A novel two-dimensional model for the thermocapillary instability of a thin liquid film was developed and validated in the paper. The model incorporates a novel solution for the unperturbed velocity components and the thin film thickness (based on the boundary layer approach and balance equation)...

Scheduling operating theatres: Mixed integer programming vs. constraint programming

Tao Wang, Nadine Meskens, David Duvivier

The daily scheduling of an operating theatre is a highly constrained problem. In addition to standard scheduling constraints, many additional constraints on human and material resources encountered in real life should be taken into account. These constraints concern the priority of operations, the...

A two-stage flow shop scheduling problem with transportation considerations

Nacira Chikhi, Moncef Abbas, Rachid Benmansour, Abdelghani Bekrar, Said Hanafi

This paper considers a two-stage robotic flow shop scheduling problem of which the objective is to minimize the maximum completion time of all the jobs. The problem consists of two dedicated machines at the first stage and a single machine at the second stage. Each job is defined by two operations...

Framework for a Selection of Custom Instructions for Ht-MPSoC in Area-performance Aware Manner

Bouthaina Dammak, Mouna Baklouti, Rachid Benmansour, Smail Niar, Mohamed Abid

Using application-specific instructions for heterogeneous multiprocessor system-on-chip (Ht-MPSoC) allows to find a good performance/energy trade-off. For MPSoC architecture executing different multimedia applications, we expect a large number of potential custom instructions. In order to explore...

Simplified soft output demapper for non-binary LDPC codes

Latifa Mostari, Abdelmalik Taleb-Ahmed, Abdennacer Bounoua

Combining non-binary LDPC codes and high order constellation, namely Bit-Interleaved Coded Modula-tion (BICM), is a simple but effective way to improve the bandwidth efficiency. Since the non-binary LDPCcodes require soft decisions as the input information, the constellation has to provide soft...

Fuzzy control turns 50: 10 years later

Thierry-Marie Guerra, Kazuo Tanaka, Antonio Sala

In 2015, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Fuzzy Sets, ten years after the main milestones regarding its applications in fuzzy control in their 40th birthday were reviewed in FSS, see [1]. Ten years is at the same time a long period and short time thinking to the inner dynamics of research. This...

Arezzo-flexible manufacturing system: A generic flexible manufacturing system shop floor emulator approach for high-level control virtual commissioning

Thierry Berger, Dominique Deneux, Thérèse Bonte, Etienne Cocquebert, Damien Trentesaux

The benchmark of several high-level control strategies is required during the design of flexible manufacturing systems. Virtual commissioning is a popular approach to test and validate the behavior of the target control system based on a virtual model. It can actually simulate and help study the...

The V ( z ) Inversion Technique for Evaluation of an Adhesively Bonded Structure

Jing Liu, Wei-Jiang Xu, Wen-Xiang Hu, Mohamed Ourak, André Dubois

Based on the fact that the evolution trace in incident angle and frequency of the resonance zeros of the reflection coefficient function for a water charged layered medium is equivalent to its guided wave mode dispersion, the interfacial adhesion of a three-layer aluminum–adhesive–aluminum bonding...

An explication of uncertain evidence in Bayesian networks: likelihood evidence and probabilistic evidence

Ali Ben Mrad, Véronique Delcroix, Sylvain Piechowiak, Philip Leicester, Mohamed Abid

This paper proposes a systematized presentation and a terminology for observations in a Bayesian network. It focuses on the three main concepts of uncertain evidence, namely likelihood evidence and fixed and not-fixed probabilistic evidence, using a review of previous literature. A probabilistic...
