The harmonic response of counter-flow heat exchangers-analytical approach and comparison with experiments

Sylvain Lalot, Bernard Desmet

The dynamic behavior of counter flow heat exchangers is studied using the harmonic response. To solve the set of partial differential equations the complex notation is used so that these equations become ordinary differential equations. In an appendix it is shown that assuming a uniform temperature...

Observer-Based Tracking design using H∞ criteria: Application to eco-driving in a tramway system

Yassine Boukal, Simon Enjalbert

This paper investigates an H∞ Observer-Based Controller design for tracking a tramway system eco-driving trajectory. The model of the tramway system is given in state space form, and the poor manoeuvres of the of the driver when following a reference trajectory are modeled as disturbances with...

A variable neighborhood search algorithm for solving the single machine scheduling problem with periodic maintenance

Hanane Krim, Rachid Benmansour, David Duvivier, Abdelhakim Artiba

In this paper we propose to solve a single machine scheduling problem which has to undergo a periodic preventive maintenance. The objective is to minimize the weighted sum of the completion times. This criterion is defined as one of the most important objectives in practice but has not been studied...

An equivalent conversion method for dual-armed multi-cluster tool scheduling problems with multi-wafer types

Zhu Wang, Bingai Zhou, Zhiqiang Lu, Damien Trentesaux, Abdelghani Bekrar

Due to the trend towards 450 mm diameter wafers and customisation, an increase in wafer diversity and transient operation are anticipated for multi-cluster tools in wafer fabrication. While most previous studies focus on steady state scheduling problem of cluster tools, research on multi-cluster...

Metal Forming and Lubrication

André Dubois, Abu N.M. Karim

In metal forming (cold or hot), localized compressive force is applied on the workpiece through a forming tool. This force leads to generate high contact pressures at the workpiece/tool interface and as a result the workpiece is deformed to deliver a desired shape and surface of the product. In...

Joining the blunt and the pointy end of the spear: towards a common framework of joint action, human–machine cooperation, cooperative guidance and control, shared, traded and supervisory control

Frank Flemisch, David Abbink, Makoto Itoh, Marie-Pierre Pacaux-Lemoine, Gina Wessel

To introduce this special issue of shared and cooperative control, we will look into history of tools in cooperation between humans and aim to unify the plethora of related concepts and definitions that have been proposed in recent years, such as shared control, human–machine cooperation and...

Material behaviour at low temperatures for calibrating cryogenic machining numerical simulations

Rachele Bertolini, Stefania Bruschi, Andrea Ghiotti, Grégory Haugou, Hervé Morvan, Laurent Dubar

Recently, cryogenic machining of difficult-to-cut alloys has been adopted to increase tool life and improve the machined components surface integrity. Numerical models of cryogenic machining are being developed to evaluate the influence of the different process parameters. Up to now, their...

Efficient matheuristics for multicommodity capacitated network design

Bernard Gendron, Said Hanafi, Raca Todosijević

We present matheuristics for the multicommodity capacitated fixed-charge network design problem (MCND). The matheuristics are based on combining iterative linear programming (ILP) methods and slope scaling (SS) heuristics. Each iteration alternates between solving a linear program obtained by...
