The concept of "safety bubble" to build ethical reconfigurable assembly systems

Thierry Berger, Thérèse Bonte, Jean-Jacques Santin, Yves Sallez

In the last decade, Reconfigurable Manufacturing Systems (RMS) have been proposed to deal with mass-customization problems and volatile markets. Applied to the field of assembly, this concept gives rise to Reconfigurable Assembly Systems (RAS). The latter are composed of different basic units (e.g…

Lattice Strain Evolutions in Ni-W Alloys during a Tensile Test Combined with Synchrotron X-ray Diffraction

Tarik Sadat, Damien Faurie, Dominique Thiaudière, Cristian Mocuta, David Tingaud, Guy Dirras

Ni and Ni(W) solid solution of bulk Ni and Ni-W alloys (Ni-10W, Ni-30W, and Ni-50W) (wt%) were mechanically compared through the evolution of their {111} X-ray diffraction peaks during in situ tensile tests on the DiffAbs beamline at the Synchrotron SOLEIL. A significant difference in terms of…

Study of transient condensation occurring during the starting of the evaporation of a droplet deposited on a heated substrate

Dorra Khilifi, Walid Foudhil, Kamel Fahem, Souad Harmand, Sadok Ben Jabrallah

The evaporation of a drop deposited on a heated substrate is a complex process, which combines several phenomena such as the Marangoni effect, mass and thermal transfers, etc. We developed, in this paper, a mathematical model and a numerical simulation code used to carry out an in-depth study about…

Machine learning applied in production planning and control: a state-of-the-art in the era of industry 4.0

Juan Pablo Usuga Cadavid, Samir Lamouri, Bernard Grabot, Robert Pellerin, Arnaud Fortin

Because of their cross-functional nature in the company, enhancing Production Planning and Control (PPC) functions can lead to a global improvement of manufacturing systems. With the advent of the Industry 4.0 (I4.0), copious availability of data, high-computing power and large storage capacity…

Experimental assessment of the sudden-reversal of the oxygen dilution effect on soot production in coflow ethylene flames II: soot radiation and flame transition analysis

Qianlong Wang, Jean-Louis Consalvi, Céline Morin, Guillaume Legros, Franklin Liu, Weiwei Cai, Haifeng Liu

The current study focuses on the radiative characteristics of heavy smoking flames that are formatted by oxygen being added to the fuel stream of a steady laminar ethylene diffusion flame. In such a scenario, based on the experimental local soot temperature and volume fraction results, the soot…

Distributed Consensus Observer for Multiagent Systems With High-Order Integrator Dynamics

Zongyu Zuo, Michael Defoort, Bailing Tian, Zhengtao Ding

This article presents a distributed consensus observer for multiagent systems with high-order integrator dynamics to estimate the leader state. Stability analysis is carefully studied to explore the convergence properties under undirected and directed communication, respectively. Using Lyapunov…

Mechanical Integrity of 3D Rough Surfaces during Contact

Maxence Bigerelle, Franck Plouraboué, Frédéric Robache, Abdeljalil Jourani, Agnes Fabre

Rough surfaces are in contact locally by the peaks of roughness. At this local scale, the pressure of contact can be sharply superior to the macroscopic pressure. If the roughness is assumed to be a random morphology, a well-established observation in many practical cases, mechanical indicators…

Niveaux d'automatisation adaptables pour une coopération homme-robots, Adaptable levels of automation for human-robots cooperation

Lydia Habib

We have witnessed a considerable interest in service robotics over the years. The robots are increasingly used to serve humans in various application fields. However, due to their limited capacity, the robots cannot meet all human expectations and the dynamic environment requirements. Robots and…

In order to improve services, maximum deadlines have been set for certain types of surgery, but this adds a constraint to the already overloaded system. Finally, the cancellation of surgeries…

Specifying a Condition-Based Maintenance Decision Support System of a Fleet of Cyber-Physical Systems

John William Mbuli, Damien Trentesaux, Thierry Dailly

To obtain an effective condition-based maintenance (CBM) of a fleet of cyber-physical systems (CPSs), the associated supervision and decision support system (DSS) must be efficient tools as well. Through these tools, the human supervisor must have reliable and up to date information on each entity…
