A reliable measure of footwear upper comfort enabled by an innovative sock equipped with textile pressure sensors

Alexis Herbaut, Emilie Simoneau-Buessinger, Franck Barbier, Francis Cannard, Nils Gueguen

Footwear comfort is essential and pressure distribution on the foot was shown as a relevant objective measurement to assess it. However, asperities on the foot sides, especially the metatarsals and the instep, make its evaluation difficult with available equipment. Thus, a sock equipped with…

A new experimental setup to characterize the dynamic mechanical behaviour of ballistic yarns

Caroline Chevalier, Christophe Kerisit, François Boussu, Daniel Coutellier, N. Faderl, Andreas Klavzar

Fabrics have been widely used as part of ballistic protections since the 1970s and the development of new ballistic solutions made from fabrics need numerical simulations, in order to predict the performance of the ballistic protection. The performances and the induced mechanisms in ballistic…

On the mechanical characterization and modeling of polymer gel brain substitute under dynamic rotational loading

Benoît Fontenier, Audrey Hault-Dubrulle, Pascal Drazetic, Christian Fontaine, Hakim Naceur

The use of highly sensitive soft materials has become increasingly apparent in the last few years in numerous industrial fields, due to their viscous and damping nature. Unfortunately these materials remain difficult to characterize using conventional techniques, mainly because of the very low…

Performance Study of Harmony Search Algorithm for Multilevel Thresholding

Salima Ouadfel, Abdelmalik Taleb-Ahmed

Abstract Thresholding is the easiest method for image segmentation. Bi-level thresholding is used to create binary images, while multilevel thresholding determines multiple thresholds, which divide the pixels into multiple regions. Most of the bi-level thresholding methods are easily extendable to…

Variable neighborhood search for minimum linear arrangement problem

Nenad Mladenovic, Dragan Urošević, Dionisio Pérez-Brit

This paper presents a general variable neighborhood search (GVNS) heuristic for solving the maximum diverse grouping problem. Extensive computational experiments performed on a series of large random graphs as well as on several instances of the maximum diversity problem taken from the literature…

Dynamic characterization of piezoelectric micro-blowers for separation flow control

Camila Chovet, Marc Lippert, Laurent Keirsbulck, Jean-Marc Foucaut

A micro-blower device, made by Murata™ Manufacturing Co. and originally designed for cooling electronic microprocessors, is used in the present study as an actuator for separation flow control. The dynamical performance of the device, working in pulsed mode, is experimentally investigated to deduce…

A viscoelastic‐viscoplastic model with non associative plasticity for the modelling of bonded joints at high strain rates

Ludovic Dufour, Benjamin Bourel, Franck Lauro, Grégory Haugou, Nicolas Leconte

The purpose of this work is to present a constitutive model able to represent the behaviour of rubber-toughened adhesive joints under dynamic loading. A fully coupled viscoelastic–viscoplastic damage model at finite strains developed for mineral filled semi-crystalline polymer is identified for an…

Experimental investigation on the evaporation of a wet porous layer inside a vertical channel with resolution of the heat equation by inverse method

Amine Terzi, Walid Foudhil, Souad Harmand, Sadok Ben Jabrallah

In this paper, we realize an Experimental study of the evaporation of a wet porous layer inside a vertical channel. To develop this study, an experimental dispositive was realised. We measure the temperature along the plate and the evaporated flow rate using the test bed. From these measurements we…
