IABM Student Awards Competition
IABM Student Awards - a CV booster our winners can be proud of!
What is IABM?
IABM (International Trade Association for Broadcast and Media Technology) has been recognized worldwide for nearly 50 years as an organization serving companies in the audiovisual field. Its 500+ members include companies such as Grass Valley, Sony, Blackmagic Design, AWS, Intel, Limecraft, ...
What is IBC?
One of the highlights in the IABM calendar is the IBC (International Broadcasting Convention), a conference/exhibition founded in London in 1967, but held in Amsterdam since 1992. The event brings together professionals from over 170 countries to explore the latest innovations, advances and trends in the world of audiovisual technology.
What is the IABM competition?
A little history... One of IABM's missions is to encourage future experts in a field that's in global tension. Since 2000, the IABM Student Awards have sponsored students so that they can attend the IBC in the best possible conditions. Winners receive travel and accommodation expenses, as well as an "envelope" to cover catering costs during their stay in Amsterdam, for a total grant of over €1600 in 2024. But more importantly, the winners can participate free of charge in conferences and debates during the exhibition, normally reserved for professionals.
DREAM students began winning IABM awards in 2008 - the quality of the entries and the number of awards won drew the organization's attention to the department, and in 2014 a partnership was established between the Valenciennes institution and IABM, the only partnership with an academic institution in France, the only other European partnership being with an institution in Germany.
The partnership guarantees a minimum of 2 prizes every year to Valenciennes students (3 prizes awarded in 2023 and 2024).
How does the competition work?
First round (January / April)
All students-e-s from Master 1 AMINJ and 4A AVM (engineering cycle) submit a 4-page Technology Watch article in English in I.E.E.E. They must also present their topic orally in English in pecha kucha format (20 slides of 20 seconds).
The pedagogical team selects around ten students to continue to the second round of the competition.
Second round (June)
Selected students present their pecha kucha to the two representatives from IABM, who award the prizes. The winners are announced the same day and can start planning their stay in Amsterdam!
