Human and Life Sciences (SHV)

The Human and Life Sciences Department (SHV) brings together researchers from different disciplines dealing with the human aspects of movement.

Presentation

Some researchers in the SHV Department examine disorders and disturbances of motor function with the aim of optimizing it. Others focus on studying the cognitive, emotional and motor components of decision-making.

The Department has strong collaborations with clinical partners and in particular with various functional rehabilitation centers. These links give it access to specific populations, particularly those with locomotor disabilities. Moreover, in view of local, national and international contexts, the Department's strengths are focused on human mobility, an essential factor in well-being and social integration.

The Department has strong links with clinical partners, and in particular with various functional rehabilitation centers.

A multidisciplinary department

One of the main strengths of the SHV Department is its multi-disciplinary approach: it is essentially based on Biomechanics, Neurophysiology and Psycho-Ergonomics, which means that the human being can be apprehended via a systemic model, based on the bio-psycho-social approach. The Department's research focuses on analyzing and modeling the control of human activities, from decision-making to motor action. To achieve this, the SHV Department can draw on a number of high-tech experimental platforms.

A strong link between research and training

In addition, the SHV Department provides a very strong Research-Training link: in particular, it forms a solid bridge between the LAMIH UMR CNRS 8201 and the Sciences et Techniques des Activités Physiques et Sportives (STAPS) training courses at the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France (UPHF), courses delegated to the Institut National des Sciences Appliquées Hauts-de-France (INSA HDF).
