Reducing production costs for anion exchange membrane electrolyzers (AEM-EC)
The aim of the project is to reduce the manufacturing costs of bipolar wafers by a factor of over 30%.
The project is part of a knowledge transfer from PEM-EC (proton exchange membrane) to AEM-EC (anion exchange membrane) technologies. The aim is to reduce the manufacturing costs of bipolar plates by a factor of over 30%. The proposed methodology relies on a reverse-engineering process involving multi-scale, multi-physics modeling strategies to bring efficiency, performance and durability to a level of maturity acceptable for industrial-scale deployment. The use of AI, embedded measurement, high-fidelity digital simulation and model reduction are combined to design a proof-of-concept prototype demonstrator with an integrated degradation controller.
