Can dissonance engineering improve risk analysis of human–machine systems?

Frédéric Vanderhaegen, Oliver Carsten

The paper discusses dissonance engineering and its application to risk analysis of human–machine systems. Dissonance engineering relates to sciences and technologies relevant to dissonances, defined as conflicts between knowledge. The richness of the concept of dissonance is illustrated by a…

Design of toughened PLA based material for application in structures subjected to severe loading conditions. Part 2. Quasi-static tensile tests and dynamic mechanical analysis at ambient and moderately high temperature

Amani Bouzouita, Delphine Notta-Cuvier, Rémi Delille, Franck Lauro, Jean-Marie Raquez, Philippe Dubois

The suitability of a ternary composition 58 wt% polylactide (PLA) - 25 wt% poly (methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) - 17 wt% Impact modifier (Biomax®Strong - BS) for use in technical parts subjected to severe loading conditions continues to be investigated. Previous work has demonstrated that PLA-PMMA-BS…

Improved LMI Conditions for Local Quadratic Stabilization of Constrained Takagi–Sugeno Fuzzy Systems

Tran Anh-Tu Nguyen, Raymundo Márquez Borbόn, Thierry-Marie Guerra, Antoine Dequidt

This paper is devoted to the control synthesis of constrained Takagi–Sugeno (T–S) fuzzy systems. These systems are subject to multiple constraints, namely actuator saturation, system state constraints, and also L2-disturbances. Using descriptor redundancy approach, new design conditions…

Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille flow and heat transfer in an annular channel with a slotted rotor

Nicolas Lancial, Federico Torriano, François Beaubert, Souad Harmand, Gilles Rolland

This paper investigates a Taylor-Couette-Poiseuille flow in an annular channel of a slotted rotating inner cylinder, corresponding to a salient pole hydrogenerator. The purpose of this study is to improve the understanding of flow and thermal phenomena in electrical machines using a simplified…

General variable neighborhood search for the uncapacitated single allocation p-hub center problem

Jack Brimberg, Nenad Mladenovic, Raca Todosijević, Dragan Urošević

In this paper we propose a general variable neighborhood search heuristic for solving the uncapacitated single allocation p-hub center problem (USApHCP). For the local search step we develop a nested variable neighborhood descent strategy. The proposed approach is tested on benchmark instances from…

Modelling of the intralaminar matrix damage with friction effects of fabric reinforced polymers

Sylvain Treutenaere, Franck Lauro, Bruno Bennani, Tsukatada Matsumoto, Ernesto Mottola

Needed to simulate the behaviour of industrial components through finite element analysis, a continuum damage model formulation for fabric reinforced polymers is provided. Based on the Onera Damage Microstructure Model, it considers the influence of privileged direction of intralaminar matrix…

The appearance of dynamic phenomena during the running of train on track leads to issues such as noise and vibration pollution, which can be further amplified by the presence of defects on the treads. In order to analyze them, it is necessary to predict with reliability the dynamic behavior of the…
