The KINOTAYO Festival Comes to the University
The film series resumes for the 26/27 season with an inaugural screening dedicated to Japan, as part of our “Year of Inspiration” and the 19th KINOTAYO, the festival of contemporary Japanese cinema in France, featuring the screening of the documentary Numakage Public Pool. One-time screening on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at the Espace Polyvalent et Culturel, Mont Houy campus.
Synopsis: In Numakage, a suburb of Tokyo, the municipal swimming pool nicknamed “the Ocean,” which has been open for 52 years, is set to be demolished to make way for a school. During the summer of its closure, and despite protests, swimmers and staff bid farewell to this place of recreation, relaxation, and romance—but also of work. With a perspective that is both offbeat and tender, Ota films this disappearance as if it were the loss of a loved one, offering a collection of unique stories and a powerful political message.
