Complex systems evolve in a dynamic context and encounter different types of disturbances and uncertainties involving various resources and entities that interact with each other. Our aim is to ensure and improve the robustness and resilience of these systems, two key concepts in our work.

Summary

Complex systems evolve in a dynamic context and encounter different types of disturbances and uncertainties involving various resources and entities that interact with each other. Industrial and socio-technical systems share these characteristics. They must be able to cope with a variety of disturbances, whether anticipated or unforeseen. These disruptions have become the norm, and can occur at any point in the product life cycle, impacting on system operation and performance. Our research focuses on the management of production systems in this disrupted context. Our aim is to ensure and improve the robustness and resilience of these systems, two key concepts in our work. Robustness has been approached from the point of view of a system's ability to anticipate disturbance and reduce its impact by guaranteeing system performance around optimal or expected performance. Resilience was considered from the point of view of a system's ability to anticipate, react, survive and learn from disturbances. Our work focused on these two concepts and the three phases characterizing the occurrence of disturbance: before, during and after the occurrence of disturbance.
