Title
Fluid mechanics under microgravity conditions
Summary
Thermal convection in a spherical geometry with a rotating gap is of great interest in many geophysical and astrophysical applications. It is studied using direct numerical simulations and experimental results from the GeoFlow and AtmoFlow microgravity experiments conducted on board the International Space Station. To induce convection, a radial buoyancy force field is established using the dielectrophoretic effect.
We are studying Rayleigh-Benard-type convection in the GeoFlow experiment and atmospheric-type fluid flows in the AtmoFlow experiment.
In addition to these experiments carried out on board the ISS, I will report on parabolic flight experiments with technical applications, as well as experiments carried out using sounding rockets.
