Abstract

This thesis presents the conceptualization and validation of the CEIBA model, a decentralized holonic architecture designed to orchestrate sustainable multimodal hubs within the framework of the Physical Internet (PI) paradigm.

Given the fragility of centralized optimization systems and the historical marginalization of the social pillar in logistics assessment, this research integrates the three dimensions of the Triple Bottom Line (economic, environmental, and social) directly into the decision-making logic of autonomous entities, notably through the Go-Sustainable Holon (GSH) extension, which enforces human safety and well-being (such as driver fatigue) as strict, non-negotiable operational constraints.

Validated by an advanced simulation-optimization study, the research empirically demonstrates that such self-organization ensures a sustainable balance: in the face of stochastic infrastructure failures, the decentralized system maintains a 99.79% completion rate while preventing the collapse of environmental targets and strictly adhering to regulatory thresholds for working hours, thereby proving that local adaptability is the driving force behind hyperconnected logistics.
