Robot law and other human avatars

The ambition of this interdisciplinary project is to enable work at the interface between academic research and citizen reflection.

The theme of robots, which is very present in political and social discourse, can be the subject of reflections that involve civil society, as the ethical, technical and societal issues are so complex and touch the heart of the human being. Robots will be considered both in terms of their possible humanization and the "cyborgization" of humans (the theme of the augmented human). In addition, advances in artificial intelligence make this a highly topical issue. Legal and political reflection on robots, even of a forward-looking nature, cannot be divorced from the state of technological advances and scientific possibilities. The project's ambition is to develop a citizen's appropriation of science, through a subject that affects the whole of society. It will include a training/information component for the general public, as well as a more original component involving citizen participation in the elaboration of a political position. In addition to the planned publications, the results of this participatory research will be reflected in university teaching, either as a theme in a disciplinary course (such as a discovery course in Science), or as part of a specific course (such as a course in a Master's degree on cyber justice at the University of Strasbourg's Faculty of Law). In this project, science fiction literature is seen as an interface between society and technology. Science fiction is approached as an artistic production inspired by the techno-social issues of the present day, highlighting the pervasiveness of science in society. This literature thus serves as a basis for the project, to measure how it is a means of making the major technological mutations induced by robots familiar to citizens.
