When a typical 3ᵉ encounter inspires a student project!

But how did this urban legend reach the GEii department?

It's one of the craziest stories in Northern France.

On the night of September 10, 1954, in Quarouble, metalworker Marius Dewilde is said to have had an encounter of the 3rd kind. It's a story that's made the rounds of the country, interested a good number of journalists, and ended up on the premises of the GEii department at our IUT.

It's a story that's never been forgotten.

Discovery of our student projects by a teacher, amateur actor

A teacher who came with his class to the Fête de la Science discovered the GEii department's various projects and mentioned a video-mapping show in Quarouble, which required the creation of a saucer. This show, put on by the troupe Les Bras Cassés, aroused the interest of Patrick Corlay, head of the GEii department, and Nicolas Lardenois, who saw the opportunity to develop tutored projects around this theme. A 2m-diameter saucer, created by a team of 3rd-year students from BUT GEII, will fly during the Quarouble video-mapping (early July 2025).

Making a 3D model

Vincent Cayez, head of the workshop, then had the idea of making a 3D reconstruction of the scene in diorama form, attracting the attention of Jordan Anatole, Sam Nolin and Rémi Waquet in the middle of filming the documentary "Quarouble 1954" for France Télévisions.

Captation for France Télévisions

Engaged by the project, the film crew came to our premises for a filming session.

Bravo to the department for this magnificent project!
