Seminar "Automated Articulated Vehicles (AArV) - modeling, properties and control".

As part of the scientific animation of the automatic Department of LAMIH, a seminar will be held by Maciej Marcin Michałek, Professor at the Poznan University of Technology (PUT), Poland.

Summary: Current trends in the development of freight and public transport are leading to the use of so-called high-capacity vehicles, which in most practical applications become articulated structures. Manual maneuvers with multi-articulated vehicles are particularly difficult, demanding and can be dangerous. Therefore, partial or full automation of articulated vehicle movements seems to be justified in some applications. In this talk, we will study the problem of analytical and data-driven modeling of articulated vehicles, discuss some interesting properties of this type of moving structures, and discuss a modular and highly scalable cascade-like control scheme, which allows (semi-)automated agile maneuvers with vehicles comprising an arbitrary number of segments. Potential applications of kinematic models and cascade control systems to N-trailers and articulated city buses will be discussed. The presentation will be illustrated by a selection of simulation and experimental results obtained in the laboratory or in the field.
