Title

On the aerodynamic characteristics of Romania's first aerodynamic car

Summary

At the dawn of the automobile (1922), Romanian professor Aurel Persu patented a streamlined aerodynamic car in Germany. Here's how he described his aerodynamic automobile (https://persu.ro/): "The shape of the body resembles the upper half of the body of a bird (e.g. a pigeon), with a unified volume, a somewhat semicircular cross-section with the base downwards, higher and wider at the front, for about a third of the length of the vehicle, then the sections gradually decrease towards the rear, in order to avoid depressions during driving, which would slow down the automobile by pulling it backwards."

This presentation shows the results of the first scientific study of the aerodynamics of the first Romanian aerodynamic car (Aurel Persu's car): results obtained from wind tunnel experiments involving force measurements and particle image velocimetry (PIV) are compared with results obtained from CFD simulations.
