SIGMA RAIL
Serious Games for Railway Infrastructure Maintenance
Development and modernization projects are emerging in the rail sector. The strategic development plan for the Maghreb countries' railroads aims to raise rail productivity for passengers and freight.
The need to develop a predictive maintenance policy in the upstream design phases of these projects needs to be accompanied by an approach to developing high-level skills and human capital in terms of expertise and management, both qualitatively and quantitatively. More generally, the Regional Transport Action Plan (RTAP) envisages the extension of the main Trans-European Transport Axes to the Mediterranean Region, as well as the recruitment and training of a large number of people to renew the potential of experts and managers in the sector. In order to meet these expansion and recruitment needs, the map of higher education courses offered in Europe and the Maghreb countries needs to be developed in terms of specialized training in the railway sector, particularly in infrastructure maintenance. It is in this context that we propose to develop teaching modules in the field of railway infrastructure maintenance. The modules will be integrated into various levels of degree courses (Engineer, Master). The project is based on a digital teaching approach, using e-learning modules (blended learning, serious games, etc.) and virtual classroom teaching methods. To ensure the project's sustainability, it is planned to set up a Euro-Mediterranean training observatory, and to develop platforms of excellence for research and training in the field of rail infrastructure maintenance.
