SCALENEo

The game of hypothesis families

The Erasmus+ SCALENEo (Smart ClinicAL rEasoning iN physiothErapy) project, which has a budget of 400 k€ and will run between December 2022 and November 2024, aims to promote an innovative learning tool in physiotherapy teaching through a serious game dedicated to clinical reasoning

The SCALENEo project aims to develop and promote an innovative learning device for clinical reasoning in musculoskeletal physiotherapy: a "serious game".

This game is based on a set of cards representing different clinical hypotheses, enabling physiotherapy students or professionals to structure their reasoning based on given clinical cases.

The game will exist both in paper version and as an online application; its theoretical foundations and rules have been presented by Hage et al (2022).

The digital ecosystem will be suitable for both students (in initial or continuing training) and professionals who, by taking on the role of trainers in a game, will be able to develop their pedagogical skills in teaching clinical reasoning.

The online application will allow the inclusion of multimedia documents to increase the realism of the clinical cases proposed and their appropriateness to modern Evidence-Based-Practice (EBP) approaches. Scenarios, i.e. clinical cases, will also be proposed.

Online gaming could also be used for research purposes highlighting potential clinical locks in players.
