Digitalization in Manufacturing Processes: From (Meta) Models to Virtual Immersion
DAMAS is studying the role of digital technology in the development of manufacturing processes. The project focuses in particular on the uses of virtual reality, augmented reality, digital twins, and real-time enriched modeling, as well as the associated challenges.
The project is structured around four demonstrators:
- Digital twin of production equipment for steel and superalloy forging
- Characterization and real-time simulation of cutting, stamping, and mechanical assembly
- Digital twin of the product’s performance properties in relation to manufacturing process parameters
- Virtual reality in incremental forming
The challenges relate to:
- Evaluation of forged product properties: Digital twin incorporating material rheology at high strain rates, high-temperature tribology, and press stiffness.
- Adapting process parameters to material characteristics: Digital twin of a sheet metal forming line and a drawing operation to monitor the product’s geometric and structural properties
- Reducing product and manufacturing process development times
- Developing AI and VR techniques to aid in product design
