BUT INFO at the service of professional sport

The era when statistics take center stage in professional sport is well and truly upon us

This trend from the United States is fully integrated in Europe, particularly in handball.

This is the context in which students in their 3rd year at BUT Informatique in Maubeuge are collaborating with the Sambre Avesnois Handball club, which plays in the Ligue Butagaz Énergie, the 1ʳᵉ professional women's division.

The mission entrusted to the students

They have to respond to a concrete problem faced by the technical staff, who are looking to communicate statistics to the players in a simple and effective way, before and after matches.
The skills acquired in BUT INFO come into their own here: a group of around fifteen students have been working since the start of the year on the creation and development of a dedicated application.

On Friday October 24, the students had the opportunity to present the progress of their work to the club's technical staff, at the IUT premises. The meeting provided an opportunity to exchange ideas, adjust certain functionalities and gather further details in order to refine the project.

This is the first time that the students have been able to present their work to the club's technical staff.

Next step

On November 3, the project will be presented to the French Handball Federation in Créteil, in front of the technical staff of the French women's team, in the presence of David Burguin, assistant coach of the national selection.
