Letter from the LAMIH COREGAL team
In anticipation of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science on February 11. We would like to present the existing policy on the issue of professional equality within French research.
In its Action plan for professional equality updated in 2024, the CNRS has reaffirmed its commitment to professional equality between women and men. This commitment is reflected around several varied axes such as the fight against sexual and gender-based violence but also the evaluation and treatment of gaps in pay or access to professional promotion.
In the context of the February 11 day, we would particularly like to highlight the actions planned under Axis 3 "Encouraging the articulation between professional, personal and family life". The two main objectives of this axis are to:
- Enable a work organization conducive to professional equality.
It's clear that the vital balance between professional career and personal life is decoupled from the notion of parenthood. Parenthood remains a choice made by the family unit, in which the professional environment must not interfere. This facilitation of the professional environment includes facilitating telecommuting or the establishment of time charters at research unit level. - Favor investment in parenthood.
At the local level, this involves, for example, communication campaigns to encourage fathers to take childcare leave. On a global level, CNRS is working to facilitate parenthood during missions (e.g. booking transport tickets for children, creating ephemeral crèches...)
There are therefore several teams to consider for successful parenthood, the family unit and the professional structure.
With this in mind, LAMIH's COREGAL binomial will be carrying out local animations/trainings/events to address these notions with colleagues, but also with PhD students considering embarking on an academic career.
