University students services
If you want to improve your French, the UPHF offers classes in French at the FLLASH at Mont Houy. These courses are divided into 3 levels : A, B or C. These courses enable students to improve their level of French as a foreign language and facilitate their university studies and integration in France. These courses are validated by exams, continuous control, and ECTS points.

If you stay in Valenciennes, you can choose 2 kinds of accommodation :
- You can rent a room in the university halls of residence.
- You can look for a house on the private market.
Staying in the university halls of residence is a great opportunity to meet other students and a room doesn’t cost that much.
Also you are staying very close to the university, so you are not long on the road to go to the university.

At the UPHF, you will find restaurants at two campuses : Mont Houy and Tertiales.
Mont Houy has 2 canteens (“RU”) (Mont Houy 1 and 2) and 4 cafeterias. You will find these cafeterias in the Hall of the RU, Mont Houy 1 (near the home of Student Services), Faculty of Arts (Matisse building), Residence Jules Mousseron and RU Mont Houy 2 (near the ISTV2).
The opening hours of Mont Houy are from 11:15 am to 1:30 pm and the cost for a full menu is € 3,05 (academic year 2011-2012). You will have to pay with your student card.
Tertiales has one restaurant, located in former premises of the Ronzier building, and 3 cafeterias. The cafeterias are located at the IUT (open from Monday to Friday, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm), at FDEG (open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) and on the site of Ronzier (open from Monday to Friday, from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm).
At the UPHF, you will find libraries at two campuses : Mont Houy and Tertiales.
Collections correspond to the disciplines taught on the campuses: history, geography, science education, language and literature, cinema, art history until the twentieth century, mathematics, computer science, physics, chemistry, physiology, sports practices, construction, transport, mechanics, electrics, audio-visual, industrial production, general culture, education and jobs, integration into the workplace, educational exams, management, law, economics, accounting and finance, human resources, logistics, marketing,…

During the week, the library is open from 8:00 am to 7:00 pm and on Saturday from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm.
When you are staying at the UPHF, you don’t have to ignore your hobby. You can even find a new hobby! This happens thanks to the ICU (Institut Culturel Universitaire). The ICU offers different kind of workshops, so that you can learn some new things or that you can still practice your hobby.
The workshops, that the ICU offers, are:
- instrumental practice with the University’s “Big Band”,
- an introduction to theatre,
- writing of songs,
- chess games,
- improvisational theatre.
The ICU organizes exposures at the University Library of Mont Houy and other places, “Mercredis de la residence” (concerts at the residence “Jules Mousseron”), a film society, a trip twice a year to Paris (discovery of temporary exhibition).

The University of Valenciennes offers you, whatever your level of sport is, thirty activities.
At the heart of the campus, attractive athletic facilities are at your disposal: two gymnasiums, a weight room, a dance hall, a martial arts room, a football field and a running track.
Here you will find an example of the proposed activities during the week.
On Saturday morning, the university invites you to enjoy free activities.
From 9:30 am to 11:30 am: badminton, basket, football, strength training, tennis table and volleyball.
