Research data
As part of the Ministry's strategic management dialogue, Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France and INSA Hauts-de-France have obtained funding to carry out a survey in order to conduct a precise inventory of existing uses and potential achievements in laboratories on research data.
The questionnaire was distributed online to researchers and members of the establishment's laboratories from March 14, 2022 to May 31, 2022.
The main findings of the survey are:
- Research data is mostly undocumented: 48% don't use metadata and 35% don't know what it is;
- 85% of responding researchers do not know the FAIR principles, and 59% do not know what a Data Management Plan is;
- Storage and archiving issues are present in several laboratories;
- The main obstacles to data dissemination are lack of time and fear of plagiarism.
Analysis of the survey results and the recommendations that have been formulated to meet the needs of the scientific community are available on the Zenodo research data warehouse.
In 2023 a Data Copil was set up with the various data players within the establishment. A rules on research data management at UPHF was enacted. It sets out guidelines for the management and sharing of research data. The aim of the regulation is to reiterate the best practices that UPHF recommends for the entire research process.
As part of the implementation of the regulation on research data management the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France and INSA Hauts-de-France have created an institutional space on the national repository Recherche Data Gouv.
The warehouse offers online storage for a renewable 5-year period, and enables research data to be flagged or shared to encourage collaborations and the reproducibility of research.
The establishment also makes available to its scientific community an institutional Data Management Plan template within its DMP Opidor space.
