UPHF meets Brazil
At the end of April, a delegation from the university took part in the FAUBAI annual conference and met with several Brazilian institutions to develop academic and scientific partnerships.
.FAUBAI - the Brazilian association of heads of international relations at Brazilian institutions - held its annual conference in São Paulo, from April 20 to 24, 2024. The FAUBAI trade fair is the must-attend event for international relations managers at Brazilian universities. This institutional trade show has become international in recent years, welcoming delegations and participants from all over the Americas, as well as from Europe and Africa.
Kathia Oliveira, University Professor at the IUT, researcher at the LAMIH and international relations officer for Latin America, and Cécile Garçon, international cooperation officer at the Pôle de Relations Internationales, were able to take part in the plenary sessions and workshops, as well as meeting existing partners and canvassing for new ones in Latin America. For example, the UPHF was able to exchange ideas with the UNB (Universidade de Brasilia), the PUCPR (Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Paraná), and the UdelaR (Universidad de la República) in Montevideo, Uruguay.
They also met the director of mobility at the University of São Paulo (USP), as well as several teacher-researchers from USP's Institute of Mathematics and Computer Science, with whom UPHF is collaborating as part of an IRC-CNRS project. This will further strengthen the existing partnership, all the more so as a framework agreement and an exchange agreement have just been signed.
In addition, the French Embassy had invited French delegations to a France-Brazil workshop ahead of the event, entitled "Transitions: new realities, new challenges, new tools for Franco-Brazilian cooperation". The workshop provided an opportunity to examine this cross-cutting, global topic through the prism of academic and scientific cooperation.
The UPHF representatives also discussed France's priorities in Brazil with Eric Bourland, university cooperation attaché and coordinator of Campus France Brésil (see photo).
It should be recalled that the continued development of partnerships with Brazil is taking place within a framework of significant rapprochement between the two countries with, in particular, President Macron's visit in March 2024 resulting in the signing of numerous exchange agreements and a green investment plan for the Amazon of 1 billion euros etc.
Brazil, the world's tenth-largest GDP and Latin America's leading economy, could be a prime destination for UPHF's teaching and student mobility programs. Internships, scientific stays and co-tutelles are currently being explored.
