UPHF meets Japan

From April 17 to 21, 2023, a delegation from the university including the President's Special Advisor on International Relations, Mr. Armel de la Bourdonnaye, traveled to Japan to meet with several current and future partner universities.

The delegation met with two partner universities

  • University of Tsukuba, with which UPHF collaborates on research, and sends or receives exchange students in the fields of automation and computer science.
  • Keio University, Yokohama. Our school has an exchange agreement with the Graduate School of Science and Technology which focuses on three research-oriented fields; Fundamental Science and Technology, Integrated Design Engineering, Science for Open and Environmental Systems.

The aims of these meetings were to take stock of collaborations between UPHF and these Japanese universities, and to explore new avenues of cooperation.

In particular, a possible extension of the agreement with the University of Tsukuba to other fields of study was discussed, in order to promote the international mobility of our students.

The delegation also had the opportunity to meet two universities with which UPHF would like to partner:

  • Josai International University, in Togane. University in Chiba Prefecture with an international outlook and opportunities in the humanities.
  • Toyama Prefectural University, with which UPHF has already had initial contact as part of an Erasmus+ application. A collaboration that could be extended to teaching and doctoral mobility in mechanics and materials.

Following these meetings, the two Japanese universities have expressed their interest in collaborating with UPHF on training and research. Framework cooperation agreements are in the process of being signed.

Finally, the delegation had the opportunity to meet:

  • Ms. Sophie Buhnik, former associate researcher at the French Institute for Research on Japan at the Maison franco-japonaise and currently a researcher at Tokyo City University.
  • Mr Didier Marty-Dessus, Science and Technology Counsellor at the French Embassy in Japan.
  • Mrs Myriam Baratin, attaché for science and technology, head of the "health, environment, life" division of the French Embassy in Japan.

The delegation received a warm welcome from all partners and discussions were fruitful for the development of our relations with the country of the rising sun.

New opportunities lie ahead for our students and staff!
