UPHF welcomed students from the EUNICE alliance for a research program
The BIP (Blended Intensive Program) "Discovering Research in a European Context", organized by UPHF as part of the EUNICE alliance, took place from March 9 to 20. After an initial week of online courses, students from EUNICE alliance partner countries all gathered at UPHF's Mont Houy campus to continue their program on site.
A comprehensive hybrid academic program
The program took place over two weeks and began with an initial phase of distance learning. Students thus followed online courses led by specialized teachers and speakers, addressing various research-related topics such as methodology, literature review, RGPD...
The second week was held face-to-face on the Mont Houy campus in Valenciennes. This meeting time provided an opportunity to extend the exchanges initiated remotely, and to deepen learning in a collaborative, international environment.
Courses on scientific posters, literature reviews, scientific communication, scientific integrity and much more were given throughout the week by our speakers. In addition to the courses, students were able to travel to Mons for Researchers' Tuesday, where 161 scientific posters were presented. They were also able to take part in research conferences led by experts in the field.

Beyond the academic activities, the students were able to discover the local university and cultural environment. Visits to the Mont Houy campus and the city of Valenciennes were organized to introduce them to the university's infrastructure, as well as the local heritage and dynamics.
By taking part in this BIP, the students had the opportunity to stay in Valenciennes during the week of classes, thus benefiting from total immersion in French culture and life. A truly international and enriching opportunity for our students from EUNICE alliance partner countries!
Scientific and intercultural exchanges at the heart of research
Throughout the program, students took part in lectures, roundtables and discussions led by specialists from the academic and research worlds. These exchanges encouraged the sharing of experiences, the confrontation of ideas and the building of new collaborations between students from different countries and disciplines.
This diversity of profiles and cultures was one of the highlights of the event, enabling participants to develop both their scientific skills and their international outlook.
The program aimed to encourage and give the tools to students considering embarking on a thesis. It also strengthened the skills of doctoral students at the start of their career. By highlighting the possibilities of internationalization in a European context, students received practical advice and key notions to get off to a good start and progress serenely.

An initiative already at the heart of the EUNICE alliance
Blended Intensive Programs (BIPs) are a popular and widespread type of short-term mobility within the EUNICE alliance. All our partner universities organize them every year to give our students the chance to benefit from international immersion without necessarily making a long-term commitment.
In addition to BIPs, Summer Schools and Volunteering Camps are short summer mobility programs that have already proved successful within our alliance.
In collaboration with UMons, UPHF will soon be organizing a Green Makers Camp on the theme of eco-renovation and biodiversity.
By organizing and hosting these events, the Université Polytechnique Hauts-de-France confirms its commitment to the internationalization of training and research, while offering students a framework conducive to academic and cultural exchanges on a European scale.
Testimonials from participating students
"Charming, recharging and encouraging! It was great to learn more about research in Europe and an unexpected effect that happened turned out to be one of the best things of the whole week: meeting people from all over the world (not only Europe!) and from different fields of study and research, sharing personal experiences with them and hearing theirs, it was simply delightful. I tried to understand their points of view, their backgrounds, their concerns and interests. Thanks for the whole experience!"
This BIP has made me even more sure that I want to continue my education and pursue a PhD. The sessions were extremely useful and informative and I loved every second of my stay here.
It was a mix of skills, methods, practices and experiences, all put together in one place and led by an amazing duo of hosts, researchers, teachers and organizers... At the other hand, we were a selection of multicultural pearls coming from different origins, practices and domains, which brought a lovely atmosphere!
