The 30th annual congress of the French Society of Thermal Engineering was held at the UPHF

The 30th annual conference of the French Society of Thermal Engineering was jointly organized by the LAMIH UMR CNRS 8201 of the Polytechnic University Hauts-de-France and the research team Thermal Engineering & Combustion Unit of UMONS.

The congress was held in Valenciennes from May 31 to June 3 on the theme of "Thermal Engineering for the Energy Transition."

If in 1992, the United Nations conference in Rio de Janeiro adopted a series of precautionary principles in an uncertain context for the future of our planet, the diagnosis is in 2020 without appeal.

The awareness is now collective but in a booming global demographic context and with a model of society very much linked to the consumption of goods, what are our means of action to change the model and migrate to a more sober and decarbonized society with a strong time constraint?

Many issues are at stake, whether technical, scientific, social, societal, financial or even political.

  • What is the place of the thermal engineer today in relation to these issues?
  • How will the thermal engineer be able to participate in the strategic evolutions that are essential to ensure this transition?
  • What tools are available to our scientific community to explain the stakes of the energy transition, to propose elements of solutions and to make people aware of their own responsibility?
  • How to open up to many disciplinary fields in order to adopt the global approach that this energy transition requires?

During this congress, the various contributions, through plenary lectures, workshop debates and scientific communications, will attempt to provide avenues for reflection on the actions to be taken by the scientific community.
