Goal: University Football World Cup

New spotlight for the university's sports department, whose director Sébastien Malapel has just been appointed by the French University Sports Federation (FFSU) as head coach of the French university soccer team. In his sights: preparation for the University World Cup in Korea in 2027.

In the first instance, it will be a question of reviving a dynamic that was damaged by the Covid pandemic and which has not to date recovered its cruising speed. "For the moment, university soccer results in France are up and down, so I've been asked to consolidate sporting results and take the French University team, to the final four in 2027 in Korea" says Sébastien Malapel.

The new coach-selector plans four gatherings in 2024 to observe players in action and select the best to build the most successful French university team possible. The first gathering will be held in Lyon in September, the second in Valenciennes in October, with the other two still to be defined.
