Prolific and turbulent, the new photography scene in the Middle Kingdom has developed out of all proportion in recent years. What subjects animate this generation of artists, all confronted and even stimulated by the burden of power and the history of such a complex nation? Sino-American relations, evocations of the Cultural Revolution, security issues or even the question of gender, the four artists presented here have one thing in common: they tackle sensitive, topical yet delicate subjects.
