Gondang Orchestra Indonesia, who are they?

The Gondang Orchestra Indonesia combines Gondang Batak music with orchestral music. The creation of the Gondang Orchestra was inspired by the Batak music around the island of Samosir, Lake Toba, North Sumatra, Indonesia, accompanied by the aspiration to preserve and promote Batak culture and performing arts by presenting gondang around the world. The Gondang Orchestra can perform traditional Batak songs, Batak pop songs and Western pop songs and/or contemporary, world and modern music. During the show, the Gondang Orchestra Indonesia is accompanied by the Tortor dance.

Tortor is a traditional Batak dance originating in North Sumatra, Indonesia. Originally, this dance was a ritual and sacred dance performed at funerals, healing ceremonies and other traditional Batak ceremonies. For the Batak people, the Tortor dance has both cultural and spiritual value.

The Gondang Indonesia orchestra was created with the following missions:

1. To promote Indonesian classical/traditional and modern music and dance worldwide

2. Promote public diplomacy/contacts between people of different nations

.

3. Preserve traditional Indonesian music and dance, especially from North Sumatra

.

4. Showcase the richness of Indonesian culture to attract tourists to Indonesia

.

5. Reinforce love of homeland among Indonesians in the diaspora

.
